This morning’s Wall Street Journal reports that YouTube has approached top onscreen talent with bonuses in order to keep them posting to the service.
The bonuses come in response to heavy wooing for exclusive windows by upcoming services like Vessel (flush with $75 million in funding and run by former Hulu exec Jason Killar).
Facebook is making more nuanced overtures by meeting more often with video creators to discuss marketing strategies, as well as using its algorithms to favor videos posted directly to their service.
As if hosting, ad rev splits, and navigating the complex field of rights & royalties weren’t enough of a challenge, the entire video ecosystem is about to erupt into an all-out bidding war for top talent across multi-channel networks, as well as increased pressure to better serve & identify rising talent.
