Explore LA (Holiday Roadtrip Edition): The Desert

Yup, still on vacation, will be back to posting business articles in the new year.

So check out these pics for inspiration when you’re trying to figure out where to get away — LA has it all, from beaches and deserts to mountains and ski trails, all within hours of the city.

This sojourn takes you on the outskirts between Joshua Tree and Palm Springs — had I thought I would turn this into a post, I would have taken pics of the wind-powered electricity generators, the Joshua Trees, the outlet mall, and the Palm Springs strip!

Ah well, enjoy:

First, get off the 10 and see the dinosaurs next to Morongo Casino / Cabazon Outlets

(Yup, these were featured in the 80’s classic ‘Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure’)

Next, go down a little bit more and drive 20 miles north on a two-lane highway

Take a right then a left and find yourself at the Integratron

The Integratron is a two-story dome that offers daily sound baths using mystic bowls

Take your place on the floor, look up at the ceiling, close your eyes and let the sound go through you

These bowls produce some wicked sound that put your right- and left-brain back in sync

The view outside — Moby even performed inside the Integratron a couple weeks ago!

Just a little stage to do as you please

Hop back in the car and head back down the road, continuing to soak in the vast emptiness that is the desert

Hey look, windmill! Time for an artsy Instagram shot

Get to the spa and immediately immerse yourself in the pool, whose waters are drawn from the local hot springs

Walk over to the hot tub and turn on the jets for ten minutes

Enjoy the pink hues of the sunset as you go to the indoor pool for further relaxation

But of course, turn around and enjoy the true sunset over the mountains

Rinse, wash, repeat for a couple more days. And be sure to switch your phone to airplane mode and zone out!!!

Before you head back, take the tram to the top of the mountains to enjoy some different climates

The view of Palm Springs, the Coachella Valley, and the desert from Mount San Jacinto State Park

Hey look, it’s a snowman!
