Looks like the biggest casualty in the huge downtown fire that broke out early Monday morning were thousands of bags that had been prepared in advance for LA’s homebound senior citizens — smoke & water damage to a building to the fire where these times were held has rendered the bags & their gifts unusable, and the Mayor’s wife is leading the path to seek help:

“Thousands of Holiday Gift Bags for homebound, frail and other seniors were destroyed following Monday’s structure fire in Downtown LA. The Holiday Gift Bags weren’t full of luxuries – these are everyday items that can make a world of difference to a senior in need. We can save the holidays and usher in a happy, healthy 2015 for our seniors. My husband, Mayor Eric Garcetti, and I have donated to buy the first 25 bags. Please join us.

Thanks!

Amy Elaine Wakeland, First Lady of Los Angeles”
