According to multiple reports, the District Attorneys of Los Angeles and San Francisco have sued Uber for making untrue statements regarding background checks of its drivers + charging a “safety fee” to customers to cover the costs of said background checks; unlawfully operating at area airports + charging a fraudulent Airport Fee Toll; and basing fares without approval from the state oversight agency.
Uber competitor Lyft faced similar charges, but has paid $500k in fines and has curtailed such practices in order to be compliant with local laws.
